Amount: It is administered topically to the eye two to four times daily.
Indications: The drug is used for the prophylaxis and local treatment of superficial ocular infections due to oxytetracycline- and Polymyxin-sensitive organisms. These infections include the following: Ocular infections due to streptococci, rickettsiae E. coli, and A. aerogenes (such as conjunctivitis, keratitis, pinkeye, corneal ulcer, and blepharitis in dogs); ocular infections due to secondary bacterial complications associated with distemper in dogs; and ocular infections due to bacterial inflammatory conditions which may occur secondary to other diseases in dogs.
Limitations: Allergic reactions may occasionally occur. Treatment should be discontinued if reactions are severe. If new infections due to nonsensitive bacteria or fungi appear during therapy, appropriate measures should be taken.
Cats
Amount: It is administered topically to the eye two to four times daily.

How should this medication be used?
Use this medication exactly as directed by your veterinarian. If you do not understand the directions ask the pharmacist or veterinarian to explain them to you. Wash your hands prior to using the eye ointment. Apply a thin film of the ointment onto the inside of the lower eyelid. If applying another medication to the same eye, wait 10 minutes before the next application. Store Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment at room temperature below 77º F, away from moisture and heat. Keep the tube properly capped.
What happens if I miss applying a dose?
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next regularly scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and apply the next one as directed. Do not give a double dose of the medication.
What happens if I overdose the pet?
An overdose of this medication is unlikely. If an overdose is suspected, wash the eye with water and seek emergency veterinary medical treatment.
What should I avoid while applying Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment to my pet?
Do not touch the tube opening to any surface including eyes or hands. This medication may cause blurred vision. Avoid using other eye medications unless approved by your veterinarian. Prolonged use of this medication may result in a more serious bacterial or fungal infection.
What are the possible side effects of Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment?
Serious side effects are not expected. Some stinging may occur. Fatal allergic reactions in cats may occur. Contact your veterinarian or veterinary emergency room immediately if your cat has swelling of the face, itching, or appears to have difficulty breathing. Talk to your veterinarian about any other side effects that seems unusual or bothersome to your pet.
